Cacaogato, The Dessert You Didn't Know You Needed

rich, velvety hot cacao poured over cold, creamy vanilla ice cream. It's part dessert, part drink, and entirely the reason you'll be standing in your kitchen at 9pm saying, "Just one more spoonful..."

think of it as the chocolate lover's answer to an affogato. no espresso required.

the hot cacao slowly melts into the vanilla ice cream, creating the creamiest, dreamiest chocolate sauce you've ever accidentally made. every spoonful is a mix of warm, cold, silky, and chocolatey, with just enough flaky sea salt to make all the flavours pop.

you'll need:

  • 20g nibbed pure cacao

  • a splash of boiling water

  • 150ml warm coconut milk (or your favourite milk)

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream (or vegan vanilla ice cream)

  • a pinch of flaky sea salt

optional: grated cacao or dark chocolate to finish

method:

1. make your hot cacao.

whisk your nibbed pure cacao with a splash of boiling water until smooth and glossy.

2. add the milk.

pour in your warm coconut milk (or milk of choice) and whisk until rich, creamy, and impossible not to taste-test.

3. scoop the ice cream.

add two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream to a glass or dessert bowl.

be generous. this isn't the time for restraint.

4. the magic moment.

slowly pour the hot cacao over the ice cream and watch it melt into the dreamiest chocolate dessert.

it's basically edible theatre.

5. finish it off.

sprinkle over a pinch of flaky sea salt and, if you're feeling extra, a little grated cacao or dark chocolate.

6. eat immediately.

seriously.

don't answer that text.

don't fold the washing.

this dessert waits for no one.
