nibbed… but not nibs?

Yes, we’re called nibbed cacao.
No, we don’t actually sell cacao nibs.

while our name nods to the origin of cacao (those beautiful little nibs), what we actually make is something quite different… and, dare we say, better.

We make grated pure cacao, and once you understand the difference between cacao nibs, cacao powder, and grated cacao, it all starts to make sense.

First Things First: What Are Cacao Nibs?

Cacao nibs are simply crushed cacao beans.

They’re:

  • Raw (Or lightly roasted)

  • Hard as nuts (Cannont melt)

  • Intense in flavour (read: quite bitter)

Think of them as cacao in its most unprocessed form.

Great for sprinkling on smoothie bowls.
Not so great if you’re trying to make a smooth, dreamy cup of hot cacao.

So… What Is Grated Cacao?

This is where we come in 🤎

Made by taking 100% pure cacao paste (including the natural cacao butter) and finely grating it into small, meltable pieces.

Our grated cacao is literally our pure cacao block, that we have grated.

Which means:

  • It melts smoothly into drinks

  • It keeps its natural fats (cacao butter)

  • It delivers a darker, creamier texture

In other words… it behaves like chocolate should.

And What About Cacao Powder?

Cacao powder is what’s left after most of the cacao butter has been removed.

It’s:

  • Dry and fine

  • Cacao butter (Natural fat) removed

  • Often more bitter

  • Less creamy when mixed into drinks

It works well in baking… but when it comes to a hot cacao drink, it can fall a little flat.

Why We Chose Grated Cacao

We didn’t want to make just another hot chocolate.

We wanted something that:

  • Feels like a ritual

  • Nourishes your body

  • Actually satisfies (no watery disappointment here)

Grated cacao lets you:

  • Enjoy the full benefits of the cacao bean

  • Create a velvety, cafe-quality drink at home

  • Experience cacao the way it was meant to be enjoyed

So… Why “nibbed”?

Because it all starts with the nib.

But we’ve taken it one step further.

From nib → to something smoother, richer, and far more satisfying in your cup.

Is Grated Cacao Better Than Powder?

If you’re looking for:

  • creamy cacao drink

  • A coffee alternative with no crash

  • A more natural, less processed chocolate experience

Then yes… grated cacao wins (we’re only a little biased).

Final Thought

So no, we’re not nibs.

We’re what nibs become when they grow up, glow up… and get a little bit indulgent.

And once you’ve tried a proper cup of hot cacao, going back to powder feels a bit like settling.
