Mint Infused Hot Cacao
We've been loving infusing our cacao with fresh herbs lately, and the results have been nothing short of delightful! The health benefits of pure cacao are perfectly complimented by the bright, refreshing notes of mint, making for a truly unique and satisfying hot drink. This fresh mint infused hot cacao recipe is a perfect example – it's rich, thick, and surprisingly perfect for these warmer summer days.
Think of it as mint chocolate chip ice cream in a drink – but way more grown-up (and good for you!).
Here's what you'll need to create this delicious twist on a classic:
- ½ cup coconut milk (Rude Health brand recommended)
- 40ml hot water (not boiling)
- 20g nibbed cacao
- Handful of fresh mint leaves
-
Dash of vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
1. Heat the Mint and Coconut Milk: In a small saucepan, gently heat the coconut milk and water with the fresh mint leaves over medium heat. Don't let it boil! You just want it warm and fragrant, allowing the mint flavour to infuse the milk.2. Whisk in the Cacao: After removing the mint leaves, whisk in the nibbed cacao. You can use a whisk or a hand frother to create a nice frothy texture. Make sure to heat until all the cacao is fully emulsified and frothy!
3. Vanilla Touch (Optional): Add a dash of vanilla extract for an extra layer of complexity, but this step is entirely optional.
4. Enjoy! Pour your freshly brewed mint cacao into a cup and savour the unique blend of rich cacao and fresh mint.
Tips & Variations:
-
Mint Strength: Adjust the amount of mint leaves to your preference. Start with a handful and add more for a stronger mint flavor.
-
Sweetener: If you prefer a sweeter drink, you can add a teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar after whisking in the cacao.
-
Milk Option: Use any milk you like in place of the coconut milk.
